Day 30 Lexington, NE to Clear Lake, IA

We left Lexington, NE this morning with heavy clouds in the sky and the temperature was 63F.  We dressed warm and it didn’t get much warmer today but the sun did shine for most of it.  We traveled east on I80 through Nebraska and into Iowa and then north on I35.   There aren’t many photos for today because there wasn’t a lot to take pictures of.  There was lots of traffic on the interstates especially trucks.  We passed by the HD dealerships in Lincoln and Des Moines (they are all well located beside the major highways) and both were having some sort of gathering – lots of motorcycles and people in the parking areas.

It was not a really exciting riding day but it is amazing the cities that you pass through that were once only a name and now you can say you have been there.   We passed by Lincoln, and rode through Omaha, NE & Des Moines, IA. We rode by De Soto, NE where John Wayne was born.

Nebraska was mostly flat with fields again of corn and wheat (and cows).  Just before arriving in Lincoln we saw a glass church.  The building looked like a tall barn with no sides but as we got closer I realized that the walls were all glass – the supports were the thick tall timbers you use for a barn.  The entrance was an arch made of stone with glass on the side and top.

Both Nebraska and Iowa grow tons of corn for eating, producing ethanol, and feed for animals.  They also grow a lot of soya beans.  One of the big features in the fields of Iowa were the large number of windmill energy farms.  We inquired about them and apparently the farmers of Iowa are being given a 99 year lease on each windmill situated in their fields.

We traveled 737 km today and are staying in Clear Lake, IA.  Clear Lake is an actual lake that is spring fed – 6 miles long and 2.5 miles wide.  Tomorrow we have decided not to go through Minneapolis/St. Paul but head east again on I90 and then follow along Lake Michigan.

Ladies at this part of your trip you are at risk of getting a very deadly disease it is very common in the aviation industry. It is called “Get Home Itis”, people don’t even realize they have it until it’s too late.
It make you want to push on further in a day then you should, and it makes you take risks you would normally not think of taking. So please watch for these symptoms in each other and take extra care. Error on the side of caution, maintain a high level of safety.

    Miss you all, Ride safe!!!

Hi Darlene, Norma just told me about your blog. Sounds like your having a lot of fun and seeing lots of country. The best way to see it from a seat of a bike. Will you be back in time for the wharf rat rally?

    Ride safe

    Hi Bernard,
I haven’t been on the blog for so long. The PC was the best motorcycle for this type of trip. It was a fantastic trip and I would do it again tomorrow.
