Day 31 Clear Lake, IA to Marinette, WI

We left Clear Lake, IA this morning in sunshine and 49F – yes, folks, that was the correct temperature.  The people of Iowa can’t believe how cold the temperatures are – and there is a forecast for frost tonight!!!!!!   It did get up to a high of 69F!!!  We traveled through 4 states today – Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconson, & Michigan.  We are actually right on the border of Wisconson and Michigan in the town of Marinette tonight.   We rode 651 km today.

We met two lovely ladies this morning at breakfast at the Microtel Inn, Clear Lake, IA that we shared our journey story with.  Vallie was our hostess at the Inn – she met us when we arrived last evening and she was there again this morning.  She left us a wonderful comment on the blog today.  It is your notes and comments that encourage us along this journey and hopefully encourage others to follow their dreams and desires.

We changed our plans for the route we would take today.  We followed I90 east to Sparta, WI and then cross country on some secondary roads to the shores of Lake Michigan.  It was a great riding day – a lot less wind and we are finally back into some hills, mountains and water.   We spent a lot of our day stopping at Walmarts and Best Buys looking for portable CB radios and GPS accessories. The GPS sure comes in handy when you are looking for specific stores.

When we reached Lacrosse we crossed over the Mississipi River.  We did that once before but further north when we were heading west on our way to Sturgis, SD.  We stopped to take a picture at the Wisconson border today.  There were no stops when we entered into Minnesota.

Along our travels we see signs advertising things to do and see in each state.  Today I saw a sign advertising the “Spam Museum” – now some of you may not know what Spam is but believe me when you see the photos you’ll understand.  There are so many things we don’t get a chance to do but this is one museum I would have loved to have visited.

Tomorrow we head back into Canada through Sault Ste Marie.  We’ve had such a good time visiting all of the states and it is sad to think it is soon coming to an end.  We have been in the US since Aug 13th.  But we will be back again…

    Gals,
This (notice I don’t say “that” as we are right there alongside you … thanks to your wonderful ability to describe the spirit of your adventure) trip continues to amaze me and I want to thank Denise for bringing up “Gethomeitis”. It is very real and inciduous. But then you are probably having such a time that you really don’t want it to end … will we see days of 100km having to much fun to risk getting home too early.

Dar I can’t believe that you are still wearing your chaps even on the hotest days, good for you.

Don’t hurry home … the weather is still crappy and the Wharf Rat Rally is still a few days away. We will be at Fundy Spray with Jim and Heather.

    See you all then
    The best
    Joe
